Forschungszentrum Jülich

Forschungszentrum Juelich | REBEL FIN CO.

With more than 6,400 employees, Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of the largest interdisciplinary research centres in Europe and makes effective contributions to solving major societal challenges in the fields of information, energy and bioeconomy.

The defining feature is that the research centre pursues exclusively non-profit purposes and strives to make scientific expertise accessible to society.

Together with REBEL FIN, the Research Centre's Institute of Biological Information Processing 2: Mechanobiology has initiated the pilot project “Recycling Single-Use Laboratory Consumables”. Research is to be carried out into whether high-quality disposable material that has been used in the laboratory can be reintroduced into the recycling cycle.

On the ground, we at REBEL FIN will recycle the collected materials and, in the first step, test to what extent they can be used in the manufacture of new products.

The ultimate goal of the entire project is to develop a product from the high-quality recycled polystyrene that goes back to Jülich, and can be used again in the laboratory there in order to establish a closed material cycle. Furthermore, we would like to test to what extent the recyclate is suitable for the production of surf fins and thus expand the range of sustainable raw materials in our production.

We are once again on our way to making the world a little bit more sustainable. We will of course keep you informed about the progress of the pilot project.
